A memorial service for Mace Ryan (Red) Glasscock, 75, of Somerville Route Three was conducted Saturday, June 6, at 2:00 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel in Hartselle with the Revs. John Walker and Brooks Barkley officiating.

Mr. Glasscock died Wednesday, June 3, at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham. He was retired from the Alabama Cooperative Extension Service with 36 years of service.

After he received his bachelor of science degree in agricultural science at Auburn University in 1941, he was employed as an assistant county agent in Chilton County. He later was promoted to county agent. During the 22 years he was assigned in Chilton County, he helped develop the peach industry and festival and set up a pilot model for the Rural Area Development Program.

He then returned to Auburn University where he served as a specialist for the State Extension Service. He worked to put the state's fruit and vegetable growers in touch with new markets for their products and taught county extension staffers how to improve marketing programs.

A native of Hartselle, Mr. Glasscock retired in 1977. He returned to a farm near the junction of Highway 36 and 67 that had been in his family longer than he was old.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Waller Glasscock of Somerville Route Three; one son Mace Ryan Glassock, III, of Waverly; two daughters, Margaret Glasscock Jones of Charlotte, N.C., and Jean Porter West of Double Springs; two stepsons, Norman West of Santa Fe, N.M., and Michael S. Moore of Auburn; two brothers, Ottis Glasscock of Hartselle and Gordon M. Glasscock of Florence; two sisters, Ruby Aycock of Shellman, Ga., and Lillie Mae Holmes of Tanner; and seven grandchildren.
