NELSON, Lucian:  I am looking for info on Lucian Nelson from Detroit Alabama, b. 1881, d. 1956.  He married Carrie Mae Collier.  My email address is 3/4/02

NEWELL, Glovina:  Glovina (Newell) Renfro was born Aug 13, 1871 and married Richard Clark Renfro May 18, 1890 in Lamar Co. AL according to Renfro family Bible records.  Descendants of Richard and Glovina referred to John William and Cassie (Pearson) Newell as "Aunt Cassie and Uncle Bill."  Descendants of Richard and Glovina, and descendants of William and Cassie, both have first hand knowledge that Cassie had only one leg.  However, John William's father died in the Civil War in 1862, nine years before Glovina was born, and John's mother Emily was identified on the 1880 Lamar census as having given birth to only one child and that he was living.  John William's descendants indicate that he often alluded to having been an only child.  The marriage record recorded as "Levina Newell to Richard C. Renfro" in the Lamar records was previously attributed by me to Levina Newell, daughter of Robert Boyd Newell, but she was born 1857/8, thereby creating a serious birthdate discrepancy.
Questions:  Who are Glovina's parents?  What family circumstances existed that would cause her descendants to refer to John William as "Uncle Bill" thereby inferring that she and he were brother and sister?

NICHOLS, Green Jackson:  In the Lamar County, AL, area, my direct lines are from Jefferson C. LEE, Allan McDONALD, and Green Jackson NICHOLS.  Associated lines are McCLESKEY, CODY, YOUNG, RITTER, PENNINGTON, EVANS, PHILLILPS, BULLARD, CANTRELL, TURNER, and others.  I would especially be interested in corresponding with anyone researching or related to my direct LEE and NICHOLS lines as I have little on these families before their arrival in Alabama.  Contact Sharon Shumate at
