HODGES, Elizabeth E Aug 14 1837 Jan 24 1863 She was buried there next to Lemuel and Viney Hodges. No one seemed to know anything about her and I can only make a suggestion as to my belief of her identity! On the 1850 Census of Sumter County, Georgia there is recorded Elias Hodges and his family (Elias was a brother of Lemuel Hodges, Jr.), this roster included his son, Matthew G. Hodges who was circa 18 years of age. The 1860 Census of Sumter County, Georgia will still record Elias Hodges and his family and living next door to them was his son, Matthew G. Hodges and his wife, Elizabeth E. Hodges with several young children in the household. I have CSA records which confirm that young Matthew G. Hodges and several of his brother's each joined the service from Sumter County, Georgia. I have never found any additional personal data on Matthew G. Hodges and so, assumed that he was killed in service? Now, at some point during the 1860' Elias Hodges joined his brother's in Henry County, Alabama so that he was recorded on the 1870 Census record of Henry County. This census record will show that the three known children of Matthew G. and Elizabeth E. Hodges were recorded with their grandfather, Elias Hodges. Notice that Elizabeth E. Hodges was not included within this household of Elias Hodges. It will seem to me that Elizabeth E. Hodges, widow of Matthew G. Hodges, must have removed to Henry County, Alabama with Elias Hodges after Matthew G. Hodges was killed in service; and she also immediately died there in Henry County during 1863 and thus, is probably the Elizabeth E. Hodges buried next to Lemuel and Viney Hodges? HODGES, Henry Aug 22 1847 May 28 1868 Born in Sumpter County Georgia. Died in Henry County Alabama Son of Vincy Martin and Lemuel M. Hodges. Married Molly Cannedy. [Source: Greg Hodges, Richmond Virginia]. NOTE: The Henry Hodges reported to have been a son of Lemuel Hodges, Jr. and Viney Martin was actually, a brother of Lemuel Hodges, Jr. and was born in Pitt County, North Carolina. The Henry Hodges, a son of Lemuel and Viney Hodges was apparently too young to serve in the CSA as did his other brother's and I have never found any data to suggest that he did serve with them? Now, there was a young Henry Hodges who died 28 May 1863 and is buried next to Lemuel and Viney Hodges in Tolbert Cemetery; consequently, I have always considered this Henry to have been the son of Lemuel and Viney Hodges? Henry Hodges, brother to Lemuel Hodges, Jr. actually recorded his Will there in Henry County dated May 4, 1864, and named his entire family in full detail. This Henry was born circa 1802 in Pitt County, North Carolina. The younger Henry Hodges, son of Lemuel Hodges, Jr., who was buried in Tolbert Cemetery was born circa 1847 in Sumter County, Georgia. HODGES, LemuelM. Oct 04 1810 Aug 14 1883 (Twin) Born in Washington County Georgia. Died in Henry County Alabama. Married ca. 1831-32 in Lee County Georgia to Vincy Martin. (CSA) [Greg Hodges, Richmond Virginia]. NOTE: Lemuel Hodges, Jr. and Samuel Hodges were twins. I really don't believe that this question has ever been solved? On the 1850 Census of Sumter County, Georgia - Lemuel Hodges, Jr. was reported to have been 39 years of age; and in the adjoining county of Dooly - Samuel Hodges was reported to have been 44 years of age. On the 1860 Census of Henry County, Alabama, Samuel Hodges is reported to have been 51 years of age and Lemuel Hodges, Jr. reported to have been 49 years of age. Now, the one instance wherein they both are reported to have been born during the same year (1811), each was quite elderly and living with their respective children during that 1880 Census record in Henry County. I know from the gravestone of Lemuel Hodges, Jr. that his birth date was 4 October 1810 in Washington County, Georgia. I am sorry but I don't know the given birth date of Samuel Hodges within his actual burial record. I have always used 1808 for Samuel and 1810 for Lemuel, Jr. When you check the early records in Georgia, Lemuel, Jr. was married and still living with his parents during 1840 and Samuel was already married and out of the house and was living in the adjoining county of Dooly. Again, without proof, I am inclined to place Samuel with a birth year of 1808 and Lemuel, Jr. during 1810? [Source: John Harrell] San Antonio, Texas

HODGES, Vincy Martin May 09 1810 Feb 26 1878 Born in Washington County Georgia. Died in Henry County Alabama. She was the daughter of Margaret and Noah Martin of South Carolina. Married to Lemuel M. Hodges in 1831-32 in Lee County Georgia. [Source: Greg Hodges, Richmond Virginia]. NOTE: Margaret Martin, widow of Noah Martin and mother of Viney Hodges is stated to have been from South Carolina. This Margaret Martin was recorded on the 1850 Census of Sumter County, Georgia living within the household of Lemuel and Viney Hodges, 60 years of age and a native of North Carolina. I have not produced any document's to indicate that she was born in South Carolina. [Source: John Harrell] San Antonio, Texas
