I hope these notes will provide clues as to the location of these people during this period of time. I have attempted to keep the spelling of the names as I saw them in the records.

Petition of Hiram Elam - p. 166-167

To the Honorable William C. Henry, Judge of Bibb County Court, the undersigned Hiram Elam of the County and State aforesaid in accordance with the Statute and Such case . . . that he is willing and desirous to ligitimate the following named children (to wit), Mary Ann Elam about nine years old and Isaac Elam about seven years old the children of Ruth Elam which children are the natural children of the undersigned that he hereby recognizes them and makes them capable of inheriting his estate in the same manner as if they had been born in lawful wedlock the undersigned asks that this may be received as his declaration of the above stated facts filed in the office of the Clerk of Bibb County Court and entered at full length of record.
